This article comes at such a thoughtful time, and while it's truly heartwarming to see communities rallying for those in need during the holidays, it also makes one wonder about the year round systemic support that might prevent such intense reliance on these beautiful but concentrated efforts.

I agree—the load on local food pantries here in rural Virginia has been growing steadily for years. My Grange distributes donated bread to food banks every month as well as raises money year round for those food banks.

I have a series of articles appearing in local rural newspapers about SNAP in the particular communities and the changes ahead. The changes accelerate a trend away from „safety net“ toward business subsidies. We must reverse the decline of rural economies to get people out of poverty. I may make SNAP the topic of a post here.
