I always enjoy your "conversational" voice with these Autobiographical / Historical stories, Kristin. It's like you're sharing with friends at the dinner table over coffee. I'm just a few years older than you are, but growing up in California and Western Nevada, I mostly escaped the systemic racism that you describe. It's sobering to realize that this was still occurring during our own lifetimes, and that in some places, it still exists!
Thank you for allowing me to know you better. I grew up in a rural, predominately “Negro” neighborhood . Your education on racial issues mirrors my own. Thank you.
Beautifully written. A heartfelt witnessing of systemic injustice on a very personal level. Poignant.
